Este Simposio Internacional se celebrará en el museo al aire libre Sovereign Hill Ballarat (Australia). El tema principal que tratará es el aprendizaje a través de la historia, y se articulará mediante las intervenciones de ponentes invitados y foros de discusión diseñados para profesores de historia, profesores universitarios y directores de museos.
El Simposio se desarrollará en forma de presentaciones cortas seguidas de un tiempo de discusión. También habrá actividades prácticas en todo el museo (vertido de oro, lavado de oro real y visitas guiadas a las minas subterráneas) y se realizarán excursiones alrededor de Ballarat, cuyo costo se incluye en la tasa de inscripción.
A pesar de la amplitud del tema propuesto para el Simposio, se pretenden explorar las maneras creativas en que las escuelas, los museos y las universidades presentan la historia del pasado.
El objetivo del simposio, que conecta museos escolares, investigadores, profesores de historia y escuelas-museo, es dar a conocer y explorar distintos aspectos: la eficacia de los juegos de actuación (representaciones o reconstrucciones); los museos y los modos de presentar la historia; la influencia o presión que ejercen las inversiones y la financiación; la historia de la educación desde una perspectiva universitaria.
